Dispatches from the 2013 ISEAL Conference

Big events and a legacy for standards

Ever wondered how they managed to ensure that all the tea, sugar, coffee and bananas served at the 2012 London Olympics was Fairtrade and that all of the fish was responsibly sourced? At this year's ISEAL conference we were treated to the inside story from three of the people behind the pioneering Food Vision of the 2012 Games. They shared their insights on how we can harness this incredible leadership opportunity to drive sustainable sourcing into the mainstream.

Highlights from the ISEAL Conference: Impacts take centre stage

ISEAL‘s annual conference from 11-13 June, attended by close to 250 sustainability experts affirmed itself as the premier event for the standards and certification movement. This year the focal point was the collective push to deliver stronger impact and how innovation can help drive the movement of credible standards forward.

Standards in the 21st century: High-level panel debates future of certification

To close the public day of the ISEAL conference, a panel of experts from WWF, Nestlé, Tetra Pak International, Marine Stewardship Council, Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and academia spoke about the major trends influencing the standards landscape and how standards should react.

Top Lessons for Communicating about Impacts

At the ISEAL Conference, I facilitated a closing plenary of four communications experts (from UTZ Certified, Rainforest Alliance, WWF and Nice & Serious) who are all working on communicating the impacts of standards systems and certification to external audiences.
