Review: Standard-Setting Code

The ISEAL Code of Good Practice for Setting Social and Environmental Standards was first released in 2004 and underwent an initial revision in 2006.

Beginning in February, 2009 a revision process and public consultation was initiated in anticipation of releasing a new version by the end of 2009. An initial proposed revision served as the basis for a 60 day public consultation that finished in April, after which comments were incorporated into version 5.1. A summary of the changes between versions 4.0 and 5.1 is available.

Following a workshop session at the ISEAL AGM and Conference in June, a further revision (version 5.2) was prepared. This formed the basis for the second public consultation period which took place from mid-October to mid-December, 2009. The final revision (version 5.3) was prepared as a result of comments received and the final version 5.0 was approved by the ISEAL Board on 25 January, 2010.  A summary of the changes between versions 5.2 and 5.3 was also prepared.

The next review and revision of the ISEAL Standard-Setting Code will take place in 2013. Comments are welcome at any time and will be considered in the subsequent review. Please send your contributions to consultation [at] isealalliance [dot] org using the Comment Submission Form.
