The Novella Africa Private Public Partnership aims to provide income opportunities for rural households in Nigeria, Tanzania and Ghana via the sustainable production of Allanblackia oil. To that end it is working in to incorporate the good practice guidelines for Allanblackia production into a sector specific application of the UEBT standard on Native Natural ingredients. The UEBT verification framework is an important instrument for ethical sourcing of native natural ingredients. Its allows members and future members of the UEBT to progress towards greater social, environmental and economic sustainability throughout their supply chains.
Simultaneously to the development of Allanblackia sector of the UEBT standard, the Standard itself and its generic application guidance are also being submitted for global multi-stakeholder consultation. Given the close linkage of the three documents, a single document has been created which contains all three components and allows participants to comment on all three of them.
This consultation process will be overseen by Pi Ethics & Commerce (piec.biz) a consultancy company based in Switzerland with proven expertise in the field of social and environmental standardization. PIEC has developed a series of tools to facilitate ISEAL (the International Social and Environmental Accreditation and Labelling Alliance) compatible worldwide multi-stakeholder consultations. The consultation process will run until the 10 January 2011, after which date the comments will be analysed and addressed. All participants will be contacted and informed of how the consultation process has progressed and how comments have been answered.
