Invitation to comment on Fairtrade and Fairminded Gold Standard

ISEAL member Fairtrade International and ISEAL affiliate Alliance for Responsible Mining have opened a public consultation on the Fairtrade and Fairmined Standard for Gold from Artisanal and Small-scale Mining. Your feedback is welcomed until 7 October.

The consultation is a part of a Fairtrade and ARM review of the standard for gold (including associated precious metals), which aims to improve facilitation of artisanal and small scale miners’ market access and sustainable development of livelihoods.

The documents below can be used if you wish to participate in the consultation:

These standards are still a suggestion. Before approving them, Fairtrade and ARM invite you to analyse the proposal, comment on it and send us your feedback. They invite you to clearly explain also the rationale behind your suggestions.

In order to submit your feedback, answer the questions at the end of the consultation document. While this will not take you more than (20 minutes), your contribution is very important and will help to achieve the best possible outcome.

The completed questionnaires can be returned by the 7 October 2012 to:

Gemma Cartwright at gold@fairtrade.org.uk or Marcin Piersiak  at standards@communitymining.org.

For more information about this consultation please see the Gold Standard review section on Fairtrade International's Standards in Progress page or visit ARM's website here.
