The ISEAL Code of Good Practice for Setting Social and Environmental Standards was first released in 2004 and underwent a revision in 2006 (version 4.0). Beginning in February, 2009 a revision process and public consultation was initiated in anticipation of releasing a new version by the end of 2009. An initial proposed revision served as the basis for a 60 day public consultation that finished at the end of April, after which comments were incorporated into version 5.1.
Following a workshop session at the ISEAL AGM and Conference in June, a further revision (5.2) was prepared. This formed the basis for the second public consultation period which took place from mid-October to mid-December, 2009. The final revision (5.3) was prepared as a result of comments received and will be presented to the ISEAL Board for formal approval on 25 January, 2010. The resulting new version of the Standard-setting Code will be version 5.0.
Versions 4.0 and 5.2 are available, including track changes versions to show the evolution of the Code drafts. Summaries of all comments received during the two consultation periods and how each of the comments was addressed in the revisions are available as two separate documents.
