Sustainable Rice Platform joins as an ISEAL Community Member

ISEAL is delighted to announce that the Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) has been confirmed as an ISEAL Community Member. We are excited to be working with a standards system dedicated to supporting the sustainability of one of the world’s most important food staples.

ISEAL members are sustainability systems and accreditation bodies dedicated to delivering benefits for people and planet. They are committed to continually improving their systems and impacts through learning and innovation; collaborating with stakeholders and peers; and are transparent and truthful about how their systems work and how they measure their impacts.

In becoming an ISEAL Community Member, SRP joins a growing number of well-respected sustainability systems that are driving positive social and environmental change across multiple sectors. SRP will be working alongside these mission-driven sustainability organisations to continuously improve the effectiveness of their systems and demonstrate impact.

Further to the recommendation from the ISEAL Membership Committee and ISEAL Board approval, our Executive Director, Karin Kreider, commented, “I am very happy to congratulate Sustainable Rice Platform on becoming an ISEAL Community Member. Their standard works with a crop that is a diet staple for a large proportion of the global population. We are excited to welcome another member directly working to improve food security and look forward to working together in the months and years ahead.”

Wyn Ellis, Executive Director at SRP said: “We are delighted to be accepted as an ISEAL Community Member. Sustainable rice is critical to global food security, improved farmer livelihoods, resilience to climate impacts and protection of the environment. ISEAL has already provided invaluable guidance in the development of the SRP Standard for Sustainable Rice Cultivation - the world's first voluntary sustainability standard for rice - together with governance of the SRP-Verified Assurance Scheme launched last year.

Our membership of the ISEAL community allows us to collaborate, contribute and learn from ISEAL and our peers across the ISEAL membership, and to co-create robust, scalable, and impactful sustainability systems across the sector. We are fully committed to the ISEAL Codes of Good Practice and are already designing a continuous improvement programme to realize our next goal of becoming ISEAL Code Compliant.”

We encourage any organisation developing or operating a sustainability system with a multi-stakeholder approach and a commitment to credible practices to consider joining ISEAL.

About SRP

The Sustainable Rice Platform e.V. (SRP) is a global multi-stakeholder alliance established in 2011. Originally co‐convened by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), SRP is now an independent membership association.

Together with its institutional members from public and private sectors and stakeholders from research, financial institutions, and the international development community, SRP aims to transform the global rice sector by improving smallholder livelihoods; reducing the social, environmental and climate footprint of rice production; and by offering the global rice market an assured supply of sustainably produced rice to meet the growing global demand for rice.
