Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International e.V. (FLO e.V.) unites the producer-, market- and business-facing activities within the Fairtrade Labelling system. FLO e.V. develops the Fairtrade Standards; promotes the empowerment of Fairtrade­ certified producers by supporting them in gaining and maintaining Fairtrade Certification and capitalizing on market opportunities; and facilitates global Fairtrade markets, to optimise benefits for producers.

The Standards Unit consist of two subunits: The Standards Subunit develops and reviews standards, the Pricing Subunit is responsible for setting and reviewing Fairtrade minimum prices and premiums as well as developing pricing methodologies. 

OBJECTIVE / PURPOSE: 

The Standards Project Assistant (Pricing) will provide administrative, organizational, logistical, co-ordination and other work related services to assist the work of the Pricing team and will be accountable for:

  • Assisting the Pricing Subunit team in publishing new or revised Fairtrade minimum prices and premiums and related pricing methodologies
  • Contributing to the organization of meetings and travels
  • Supporting SU information and file management 

PRINCIPAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Assistance in setting , reviewing and communicating standards and related documents

  • Assist in the preparation, revision, editing and publication of Fairtrade minimum prices and premiums and relevant related documents
  • Organize and co-ordinate necessary translation of documents (consultation papers, draft and final standards, pricing-related documents)
  • Respond to pricing related inquiries

Organization of meetings and travels

  • Assist in the preparation, documentation and follow-up of workshops and meetings , especially the one of the Standard Committee
  • Assist in the planning, preparation and follow-up as needed of business trips
  • Register and check incoming invoices

Reporting, information and file management

  • Assist in the administration and update of reporting and project management systems
  • Update the Fairtrade minimum prices and premiums database and the standards section of the FLO website
  • Support consistent filing of all standards related documents and information in an ordered and accessible way
  • Contribute to the communication of pricing related news within FLO e.V. and to external stakeholders

Other tasks

  • Support to the Standards Unit Director when needed
  • Contribute to the execution of general (office) tasks related to work in standards and policies as they come up 

SKILLS AND PERSON SPECIFICATION: 

Essential:

  • Experience in working in an office environment
  • Fluent English. Proficient knowledge of at least French or Spanish, both languages preferred, Portuguese an asset
  • Excellent organizational skills and highly structured
  • Ability to prioritise a varied and fast-changing workload
  • Excellent communication and intercultural skills
  • Good command in the use of MS Office
  • Strong motivation for Fairtrade and its standard setting and guaranteeing system
  • Friendly, outgoing, committed to support and easily connecting to people

Desirable:

  • Qualification and experience in development or application of standards and procedures
  • Professional experience of work in an international environment, preferably related to development
  • Project management skills
  • Professional experience of work in the not-for-profit sector 

TERMS AND CONDITIONS: 

  • An initial one-year contract is offered. It is envisaged that the contract will be renewable after the initial one year period. This is a full-time position.
  • Location is at FLO e.V. offices in Bonn, Germany
  • The working language is English
  • Gross monthly Salary: 1,969.00 Euros
  • Starting date September 2010
  • 30 days annual leave per annum
