Action today for a better tomorrow: a decade to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals
2020 marks a critical decade for action on sustainability. We begin this decade with a heightened awareness and sense of urgency for climate action and biodiversity protection – with governments, companies and NGOs aligned around the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Many of the world’s largest consumer goods companies are using this year to reflect on their progress against their ambitious 2020 targets for key sustainability issues such as deforestation, women’s empowerment and water efficiency. As a result, 2020 will be a year of strategic thinking and re-positioning to determine how companies can best deliver sustainability outcomes. The leading performers are also using this opportunity to develop plans for concrete action towards the 2030 Agenda.
Join us at the 2020 Global Sustainability Standards Symposium, where sustainability standards, the business community and governments will come together with other stakeholders to explore the next decade of action for achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. We will examine how companies view their role in delivering on the 2030 agenda and how standards and governments can best support and complement that role.
Through a series of moderated panel discussions and expert contributions, participants will go on a journey to better understand:
- leading companies’ strategies for contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals and for paving the way on issues such as climate change, living income and biodiversity loss
- key challenges and opportunities that companies face in working to achieve their strategies
- how standards are adjusting their approaches to be more effective business partners, with a focus on what innovation is needed for them to better support the development and assessment of more sustainable supply chains and facilities
- the partnerships and collaborations needed to ensure greater sustainability, including the role of governments
The Global Sustainability Standards Symposium is hosted in partnership with Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
