The reason we focus much of our innovations work on better data management is to ensure standards remain relevant.
Sustainability standards are under pressure by stakeholders to scale their work by moving at the same speed of global business - providing accurate, rapid, real-time, and transparent information on their reach and impacts. Meeting these demands is essential for standards to remain relevant and for them to compete in a rapidly changing landscape of information service providers and organisations already providing data that is in high demand.
In practical terms, data-smart organisations are able to:
- Gather data from surveys, mobile apps, sensors and crowd-sourced input;
- Integrate data using data standards, databases and exchange formats;
- Analyse data with data science, visualisations and other reports; and
- Share data via open data, citizen science and trust networks.
