IFFO RS has been recognised for its adoption of credible practices and commitment to delivering and improving positive impacts to become the latest associate member of ISEAL.
The Global Standard for Responsible Supply (IFFO RS) allows producers of marine ingredients to demonstrate that their raw materials are responsibly sourced and responsibly produced.
As an associate member of ISEAL, IFFO RS applies the ISEAL Credibility Principles and meets the baseline criteria of each of the three ISEAL Codes of Good Practice – Standard-Setting, Assurance and Impacts, as assessed by the Secretariat. IFFO RS was recommended by the Membership Committee to the Board of Directors for the final approval on the 25 April 2018.
Francisco Aldon, General Manager of IFFO RS, said “we are very pleased with this great achievement which means the IFFO RS Certification Programme joins a range of initiatives that are driving positive social and environmental change across multiple sectors. This will help us demonstrate measurable environmental improvements via a credible certification system.”
Karin Kreider, Executive Director of ISEAL, said “I am delighted that IFFO RS has joined ISEAL as an associate member. IFFO RS is dedicated to transforming the production of marine ingredients. To now become an associate member of ISEAL reflects their commitment to credible practices and ensuring continuous improvement. I look forward to working with IFFO RS over the years to come.”
To transition to full membership, organisations must undergo an independent evaluation to demonstrate that they meet overall compliance with improvement criteria of the Standard-Setting Code and, within three years of full membership, undergo an independent evaluation against the Impacts and Assurance Codes.
Following this announcement, ISEAL’s membership grows to 24 standards organisations operating in diverse sectors that address critical sustainability issues such as biodiversity conservation, resource use, working conditions and producer livelihoods.
As the global association of sustainability standards, ISEAL brings the standards movement together to scale up its collective impact and engage in discussions on credibility and effectiveness.
ISEAL strongly encourages any organisation developing or operating a sustainability standards system with a multi-stakeholder approach and a commitment to credible practices to consider joining the ISEAL Alliance. The Global Standard for Responsible Supply (IFFO RS) is the leading independent business to business certification programme for the production of marine ingredients, consisting of; the IFFO RS Global Standard for Responsible Supply (IFFO RS), the IFFO RS Chain of Custody for Responsible Supply (IFFO RS CoC), and the IFFO RS Improver Programme (IFFO RS IP), all developed with ISEAL requirements in mind.
IFFO RS works closely with its stakeholders to drive responsible behaviour for a sustainable future by improving the global responsibility of the sourcing and production of marine ingredients through its programme, addressing areas such as; responsible fisheries managed according to the FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries, avoidance of Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated fishery raw materials (IUU), having Good Manufacturing Practices in place and full traceability throughout production and the supply chain. The standards are verified by independent accredited third-party certification bodies and have been developed by a multi-stakeholder group representing the sustainable seafood value chain.
