Project summary

ISEAL is part of a nine-organisation consortium working to support sustainable consumption and improve consumer behaviour through smart digital solutions and guidelines for Labelling and Certification Scheme holders.

Over the course of the project, the consortium will develop and test the viability of a supportive framework and actionable guidelines on Business-to-Consumers (B2C) communication that:

  • Reflect consumers and other stakeholders needs.
  • Support consumers purchasing decisions towards more sustainable bio-based solutions with digital solutions to support better informed decision making.
  • Include policy recommendations for deploying social measures.

ISEAL brings to the project extensive experience working on credible claims and the good practices identified in the ISEAL Code. We will draw learnings from the project to feed into the revision of our claims guidance in 2025.  Project learnings will also be used in our ongoing peer learning and training events with sustainability systems, including the new community of practice on claims and labelling.

Project priority countries

This project focuses on improving B2C communications in the EU but considers certification schemes and labels that operate also in countries outside the EU.

Target audiences

Recommendations and guidelines will be verified in ten value chains across five sectors: Textiles (Baby clothing, T-shirts, Mattresses), Housing (Wooden houses, Furniture), Beauty Care (Shampoo, Cosmetics), Bio-based plastic toys, and Household goods (Biodegradable plant pots and Bio-based BET/BEF bottles). The project will actively engage:

  • Consumers
  • Sustainability systems
